Michael Reilly Super impressive album!

A melting pot of thematic sounds exploring our urban spaces and places in an artful blending of diverse yet connected instruments and techniques. Masterful. Favorite track: Temporary Places.

about

Fifteen songs that capture the contrast and consequence of machine-age urban wonders. Sounds from the City blends lavish electronic ambience with exploratory piano as an exercise in temporality and interaction. Homemade tape samples and vintage drum machines frame tracks like visible scaffolding as layers of synth harmonies and jazzy percussion envelop and consume, positioning themselves as emblems of progress. These compositions exemplify an overwhelming stimulus, the barrage of a million simultaneous impressions, a kaleidoscope of tattered wheatpaste histories and aural panoramas. Sounds from the City is the second in a series of works that explores the continuity and coherence of our lifelong influences.
